About Pound Ridge Golf Club

Opened in 2008, Pound Ridge Golf Club is the only course in New York designed by the legendary Pete Dye. Located in Westchester County, it is less than an hour north of New York City and less than 15 minutes from Stamford and Greenwich, Connecticut. Pound Ridge Golf Club is the premier high-end, public course in the metropolitan New York area.

Crafted by Dye, his son Perry and long-time Dye construction manager/lead shaper Michael Langkau, Pound Ridge Golf Club is a full bentgrass facility, hewn from 172 acres of magnificent cliffs, streams and wooded hills. Dramatic rock formations and boulders were left onsite, creating one of the most visually stunning settings for golf in the U.S. More than 14,000-linear-feet of rock wall surrounds trees, wetlands and water hazards. These frame contoured fairways which wind through hardwood forests and fescue mounds leading to open meadows with picturesque green complexes.

Pound Ridge Golf Club plays to a par-72 and houses five sets of tees and measures 7,165 yards. It boasts a practice range, short game area and putting green. The property features some of the highest points in Westchester County, with a number of tee boxes offering expansive vistas of the surrounding countryside. Notable holes include the par-5, 13th – home to “Pete’s Rock,” a giant boulder that rests in the middle of the fairway – and the par-3 15th – dubbed “Headstone” – which is flanked on the right by a large rock outcropping that protrudes into the elongated, 9,000-square-foot green.

Antigua Unveils Brighter, Bolder Color Palette For Spring 2013 Men's Collection

New Antigua Logo

PERFORMANCE-72 is Performance with Style
The Antigua Group, Inc. - one of the nation's leading designers and marketers of genuine sports apparel under its Antigua brand - is excited to unveil their Spring 2013 Men's collection.

The Antigua Spring Men's and Women's Performance Golf Collections introduced a new color palette of bright accent colors for it's Spring '12 Golf Wear Collections, and have since brightened the color value for it's Spring 2013 offering. These trending pop colors are used as subtle details, created to appeal to a wide age demographic of both male and female golfers in both of this seasons Men's and Women's Golf Wear Collections.
The Montage Polo show in the color Lapis blue
"For Spring 2013, the focus of pop accent colors on less conspicuous fabrications throughout the collections shows off the styling and design features of the individuals garments," said Sean Gregg, Director of Product Development for Antigua.

"The collections are current in both color and design trend, and are additionally embellished with performance enhancing features by incorporating Antigua's proprietary Desert Dry and Desert Dry Xtra-Lite moisture management technology to produce collections that are both merchandized appropriately for the season while offering performance functionality" Gregg added.

PERFORMANCE-72 (PRF-72)

For Spring '13 Antigua introduces PERFORMANCE-72 into it's golf fashion collections. The launch of this trademarked Performance-72 branding represents the benchmark for quality, fit, style and performance functionality on all of it's fashion golf wear collections. Each color story is designed to be merchandised together and to be presented on the retail floor as a collection and the Performance-72 branding trim is color coordinated to match each color story, representing both the brand as well as allowing the consumer to pair up merchandise readily for coordinating confidently on and off the course.

Performance-72 (PRF-72) epitomizes the standard that golf fashion should achieve. It is performance fashion golf apparel at it's best.

COLOR STORIES AND STANDOUT STYLES:

The Antigua Men's Collection takes it's new color palette a step bolder and brighter for their Spring 2013 collection. The new pop color palette that Antigua introduced last season has expanded to include six invigorating colors: Lapis, Margarita, Apple, Melon, Phlox, and Zest.

"The reaction to, and acceptance of the direction we're taking with the new color palette has been extremely strong", said Sean Gregg.

Lapis is a brilliant hue of the more traditional blue, a color grouping that merchandizes well with items that are already in a golfer's wardrobe.

Margarita is a neon take on lime, and is paired with a variety of neutral shades such as Steel, Silver and White. This color offering is expected to become another best-seller for this next season, as Sean Gregg noted that "The dominant color in the market overall is currently lime green, and our Keylime
Alpha Desert Dry™ pullover in White/Silver/Margarita
color sold out in every style last season."

Margarita is also used as an accent to Black, for example, the Torrent Polo looks exceptional in Black accented in Margarita and Smoke as contrast stripes on specifically the 3-button placket, under-collar, and on the cut-and-sewn cuffs. The Torrent polo, as do all the performance polos, features Desert Dry™ moisture management technology.

Apple green is a perfect color group for those who want a little more tradition to their pop color, and is merchandized with the color Navy to create a vibrant contrast color story. The color Navy was brought back into the performance color palette this season with the intention of having a bright accent color paired with it.

Zest is a lemon-drop yellow, as another fast trending pop color in the market and included in this seasons collection. Zest is subtly used to accent the smokier color shades in this new collection, such as Black, Steel, and Silver, and as a contrast accent color on collars, cuffs and plackets.

Similarly, the Melon orange and Phlox pink color groups are merchandized with a smoky color palette, which allows the pop colors to bring life to the neutral shades and not overwhelm.

For a blast of pop color, style Surge is sure to be a standout style. A textured horizontal pique stripe is offered in the entire range of this seasons colors representing the palette in it's entirety as a tonal solid polo with white being featured as the neutral shade in the form of a contrast cover-stitch detail. Style Surge can be a featured lead piece in any of the collections color stories.

Conversely, the Pulse polo in any of the subtle neutral colored ombre patterns includes a bright contrast cover-stitch color at the top shoulder seam, underarm seam and side seam, as well as on the placket and the inside back yoke panel.

Style Montage, a jacquard tonal abstract geometric polo, is already a big seller in the collection, bringing together a perfect combination of performance function with fashion styling. This polo features Desert Dry Xtra-Lite D2XL moisture management technology offered in a variety of solid tonal brights.

FABRIC STORIES:

This season new performance fabrics were developed with finer yarns to create ultra lightweight knits in textures and in flat jerseys and interlocks that update the hand, drape and appearance of the traditional polo.

By using the finest denier yarns available, Antigua has achieved super soft, super lightweight fabrics that provide the same coverage as other poly knits, but allow for faster wicking, additional breathability and less restriction in movement.

Desert Dry™ Technology is created exclusively for Antigua to absorb and wick moisture quickly & evenly to achieve the most efficient evaporation possible to keep golfers comfortable and dry.

Desert Dry™ XTRA-LITE (D2XL) is a combination of Antigua's exclusive Desert Dry™ moisture wicking feature combined with specially constructed ultra-light fabrics for maximum wicking performance and optimum comfort.

A fun, family-focused cyber golf tournament designed for players of all ages is now being contested with teams across the globe thanks to SNAG® Golf (Starting New At Golf).  The Third Annual International SNAG Cup tournament invited U.S. golf professionals using SNAG in their teaching to form teams and compete virtually against other teams from around the world.  Invitations to participate also were sent to all of SNAG’s international distributors in some 60 countries.
Teams from the U.S., India, Malaysia, Europe and the United Kingdom were instructed to set up SNAG courses with equal hole distances and everyone is keeping score.  Scores will be turned in to SNAG headquarters on November 20. The international team with the lowest overall score will be named the 2012 winner.
"SNAG is being used every day to teach children around the world that otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to learn this sport," stated Kelly McCammon, Vice President of SNAG Golf. "The goal of the International SNAG tournament is to show that golf can be a more inclusive sport by allowing anyone of any skill level to play, have fun and have success."
The first International SNAG Golf challenge took place between Tower Hamlets, London and Cape Town, South Africa in 2010.  This inspirational event was the result of a whole community joining forces to promote healthy living amongst children.  They saw a total of 125 children and 15 parents and helpers take part.  The tournament was a showcase for an initiative that aimed to increase community participation in the parks of Tower Hamlets and to bring golf to the inner cities.
The second virtual International SNAG Golf tournament was held in 2011 between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia with Malaysia dominating the event.
“Both kids and adults enjoy the team spirit of taking on challengers from different countries,” says McCammon.  “Perhaps SNAG is doing its part in bringing the world together and forming friendships that could last a lifetime.”

ALL-STAR TEAM ASSEMBLED FOR FRENCH-AMERICAN CHALLENGE AT SEBONACK

Reigning MGA and WMGA Players of the Year set to represent the Met Area

Coming one year after a landmark victory against the Golfing Union of Ireland in the Governor Hugh L. Carey Challenge Cup at Bethpage Black, the MGA is once again poised to field an exceptionally talented team in international competition. The 16th French-American Challenge, a biennial matchup of 10-person (6-man, 4-woman) teams representing the MGA/WMGA and the Ligue de Golf de Paris, will be held October 16 and 17 at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. The site of the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open, Sebonack is one of the Met Area’s premier clubs and the Tom Doak/Jack Nicklaus course will provide an outstanding test for these matches, which have been dominated in recent years by the Ligue de Paris.

The MGA/WMGA team that will be determined to change that history is led by co-captains Gene Bernstein, the current MGA president and a Sebonack Golf Club member, and Beth Post, the WMGA president. Of the six men on the team, five competed just last month in the USGA Men’s State Team Championship at Galloway National Golf Club in New Jersey: 2011 MGA Player of the Year Michael Miller, 20, of Knollwood Country Club; Max Buckley, 22, of Westchester Hills Country Club, and Joe Saladino, 32, of Huntington Country Club made up the victorious New York State team in that championship, while Brian Komline, 38, of Black Oak and Niall Handley, 40, of Essex Fells, represented New Jersey. Those five players are joined on the French-American squad by 15-year-old Cameron Young of Sleepy Hollow, who won three Met Area titles this year and was on the victorious Carey Cup team last fall. Of these players, only Buckley and Handley have not yet played on an MGA international team.

The female members of the team include three newcomers to MGA/WMGA team competition and one veteran, Phoebe Timpson of Locust Valley, N.Y., who has had a lot of recent success in the Met Area. Timpson, 48, is the reigning WMGA Player of the Year and won this year’s WMGA Stroke Play Championship at Rockaway Hunting Club. The woman who finished second to Timpson in that championship, Ellen Oswald of New City, N.Y., joins her on the team. Oswald, 22, is a 2012 St. John’s University graduate who also finished second in the WMGA/MGA Met Amateur Championship at Stanwich before winning the 2012 NYSGA Women’s Amateur Championship this summer. The two final members of the team are both nationally ranked teenagers who have both competed at high levels this summer: Long Island native Annie Park, 17, and 16-year-old Cindy Ha of Demarest, N.J. Park was the 2012 Long Island Player of the Year and became the first girl to win the Nassau County Boys’ High School Championship. Ha was the runner-up at the 2012 NJSGA Women’s Amateur Championship, and like Park also qualified for this year’s U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship.

The Ligue de Golf de Paris, the primary governing body for golf in Paris and its surrounding area, has a membership of 39 golf clubs, including Le Golf National, the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup. The 2012 team representing the Ligue consists of five players making their French-American Challenge debuts and five others who have competed in several matches over the years.

The more experienced players on the French team include 23-year-old female Morgane Bazin de Jessey, who went 2-1 when these matches were held in France in 2010 (a 12.5-7.5 victory for the Ligue de Golf de Paris). Also going 2-1 in 2010 were 38-year-old Christophe Ravetto and Olivier Rozner; Antoine Schwartz, 23, went 1-2 in 2010.

The Ligue de Golf de Paris last visited the Met Area for these matches in 2008, when they emerged with a 14-6 victory at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, N.Y. The format requires all 10 players on each team to play in each of the three sessions: Fourballs and Foursomes on the first day, and singles matches on the second day. Twenty points are up for grabs, and the MGA/WMGA team needs to earn 10.5 points to win for just the second time in the history of the matches, which were first played in 1990 in Chantilly, France. The Ligue de Golf de Paris needs 10 points to retain the French-American Challenge trophy.

Preceding the matches is the French-American Challenge Am-Am, which will be held this year on Monday, October 15 at Sebonack. In addition to serving as a valuable practice round for the championship competitors, the Am-Am gives all 20 team members a chance to interact with Met Area golfers whose support of the Am-Am helps to raise money for the MGA Foundation.

Live scoring will be available for all five Foursome and Fourball matches on Tuesday, October 16, and all 10 singles matches on Wednesday, October 17. For complete coverage of the 16th French-American Challenge, visit www.mgagolf.org

About the MGA: The Metropolitan Golf Association was founded in 1897 and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest amateur golf associations representing more than 500 clubs in the tri-state Metropolitan Area. Through a network of more than 300 volunteers, and a full-time staff operating out of its Golf Central headquarters in Elmsford, N.Y., the Association fulfills its role as a true non-profit service organization. Through a variety of unique, relevant, and innovative services for member clubs and area golfers, the MGA has established itself as a leader among local and national golf organizations.
